What Does "M.S.O." Really Mean?
A hot topic in the health world today is M.S.O.’s. Ask ten different people what M.S.O. means and you’ll get ten different answers. For some it means that physicians have a close working relationship with hospital. Since the hospital is doing a lot of the legwork and bookkeeping for the physicians, this frees the Docs up to do their thing.
Win/Win? Maybe.
We recently talked to a hospital director about her M.S.O. and she told us what M.S.O. really stood for: “Much Stuff Outstanding.” She was thoroughly frustrated by:
- The fact she had to operate a number of existing billing systems that
were inherited when the physicians came aboard.
- The amount of input she was receiving from the Physician’s offices on how the accounts were to be handled.
- The large volumes of new accounts she was now responsible for, without an applicable increase in manpower to handle the accounts.
We haven’t yet found an M.S.O. that isn’t loosing money. If you have one, we’d love to hear from you.
“Much Stuff Outstanding” means that accounts are unwieldy, un-worked and unresolved. It’s a plague that seems to be infecting a lot of hospitals lately. How do you fix this situation?
It’s not a subject we can cover in a few minutes, but we’ve helped enough providers that we feel we can be of some help to you.
