What, Me Fail?
Mr. Ford knew was talking about. The success of the Model T did not happen the first time out of the box. The car’s success really resulted from a number of major failures that would have caused less enthusiastic people to give up.
An interesting aspect of some medical receivable situations that we come across is the “failures” which we are able to help become successes. It appears to be a cyclical phenomenon. For a while we don’t hear anything about receivables problems from providers and then, all of a sudden, there is a rash of calls asking for help.
Well, it appears to be happening again!
We are finding that “early out” is suddenly a very popular phrase. We are finding that accounts are building up in computers all over the country. We are finding a very high level of frustration due to the inability to manage accounts with a small staff.
It appears that some people are reluctant to address the problem of an overwhelming number of accounts because it might be perceived as an admission of failure.
From an outside perspective we see it differently. Providers have had to take on much larger billing and collection responsibilities as they have expanded their services and areas of responsibility. Integrating all of this has put a tremendous strain on systems and personnel. Asking for help is just an admission that the world is changing and that new kinds of problems mean new solution.
