Next: Mad Patient Disease?
We hope that “Mad Cow Disease” would confine itself to cows. No such luck.
Now it seems that all sorts of animals may turn up mad: mad goats, mad sheep and even Babe, the lovable pig, could go bad on us.
There’s at least one other undiagnosed possibility, Mad Patient Disease. These are the people who receive one of your invoices and immediately start foaming at the mouth. We hear from a lot of mad patients, too. Most often they are understandably embarrassed. Sometimes there is a legitimate reason for the complaint, and we try to give them the benefit of the doubt.
M. P. D. is not terminal. In fact, there are people who actually enjoy working with an upset patient, resolving the problem and making the provider look good.
