Stress Fractures
Stress problems?? Make them work for you.
We are all aware of the high stress factors involved in health care work. Stress causes burnout!
Let’s explore what causes stress and think about some ways to make it work in our behalf. I feet there are four leading reasons for stress:
- Lack of Goals - If there is no target, then there is no direction. Prioritize your work.
- Lack of Information - To often, pertinent information is missing that is important to successful collection. This leads to frustration.
- The Need to Work Quickly - If you don’t keep a fast pace going, you fall behind. Collection calls slip and your work backlogs. This leads to more frustration.
- People Conflicts - Guarantors, insurance companies and the public in general sometimes do not show basic respect. Abusiveness and arguing can lower our self-esteem. More frustration.
All of these items lead to stress. How can we overcome this and use it to our advantage?
There are no simple solutions, but look at these areas:
- Positive Mental Attitude - Make any given situation what you want it to be; not a negative, but a positive. Mentally refuse to accept negatives into your thinking. Choose not to let a situation cause you worry or stress.
- Prioritize Your Workload - Do the hardest jobs early in the day when you are fresh. The rest of your day will be easier because or it.
- Learn to Accept Other’s Faults and Shortcomings - In return, they will accept yours. You can give without loving, but you can’t love without giving. Dolly Parton says, “If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.” How true!
- Rewards - Reward yourself when a particular situation has been handled well. Reward yourself when you hit a target or meet a goal. It shows that you totally accept yourself as a person; you accept the work that you do.
High self-esteem is the number one way to overcome stress. You can have high self-esteem. Go looking for it. It’s up to you. Happy Hunting!!
